Eric is a passionate sharer of information of many things. Insightful information on Kiwi perspectives of Gallipoli. Feels like you are in a family home with your own secret house. View of Chanik Bair from your own patio. He gave us a road trip itinerary to follow to get to Cappadocia. They even supply a laundry service.
How lucky were we to have been booked in at this fabulous accommodation! We were travelling with friends that had stayed here a number of times so it was highly recommended. We weren’t disappointed! It was the perfect location in close proximity to ANZAC Cove, many cemeteries and battlefield locations. My previous visit to Gallipoli was a one day tour which simply wasn’t enough time. Our 5 day stay at Gallipoli Houses allowed us time to explore and have wonderful accommodation. The facilities allowed us to comfortably enjoy self catered breakfast and dinner on site every day and the ability to pack lunch. Our hosts were extremely helpful and welcoming. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
My wife and I spent a week at Gallipoli Houses. Last year I spent two weeks there. Amazing location. In the heart of a genuine Turkish village. Calm, relaxing and close to the fields of 1915. The hosts Ozlem and Eric are wonderful people who make you most welcome. Eric's knowledge of the Gallipoli Campaign is phenomenal and he can offer a guide book and advice if you wish.
Simply an amazing location. I miss the evenings outside, having a beer watching the sunset. I'll be back soonStayed for Nine days in September in this charmingly rustic self-contained accommodation The rooms were clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed and always loads of hot water for the large shower. Our apartment had a lovely shady terrace with great views The owners were friendly and helpful as always.
Arriving at Gallipoli Houses and stepping into my upstairs villa (Kocadere), I knew immediately that my stay was going to be amazing. The villa was very homely and spotlessly cleans, with everything on hand that I could possibly need. And then there was the little balcony where each morning I had my tea or coffee looking out at the wonderful view. The sounds of the farm animal, including a tinkering bell somewhere in the garden below was glorious to listen to. I cannot thank Oslem and Eric enough for their beautiful accommodation and it will surely be a dream of mine to re-visit one day. Thank you for this wonderful experience.
The perfect place to stay in the area. Friendly owners. The rooms and common areas are quite adequate. It offers a quiet and peaceful stay. The terrace and gas stove in the rooms provide a great opportunity for a pleasant evening meal. The only downside is the mosquitoes, but this isn't due to the owners. Given its location surrounded by nature, it's quite understandable that there are a lot of mosquitoes. Therefore, those planning to stay here should definitely bring mosquito repellent and sprays for outdoor use (the rooms have a fly-window and door and the owners also provide plug-in insect repellent). Oh, and by the way, the fact that they accept pets is a really warm gesture. We especially loved the owner's adorable dog, Leyla (a mix of shepherd dog). In short, if you ever find yourself in the area, I highly recommend visiting and staying at the Gallipoli Houses / Gelibolu Evleri.
Gelibolu Evleri or The Gallipoli houses have excellent accommodation. Its situation is really great for visiting the battlefields and cemeteries of the Canakale war 1915. We stayed here a number of times before , Ozlem and Eric are wonderful hosts. The changes in accommodation changes made over the last few years to self-catering are very impressive and give more options to stay longer. We did not have young children with on this occasion but did in the past. The self-catering will make it easier for families in my opinion. The veranda and BBQ areas are excellent, kitchen better kitted out than my home one. Beaches are fabulous to swim and sunbathe on. The restaurant offerings are really good and affordable. Eceabat is great for food and drink supplies. It is a great base also if you want to visit Troy, Canakale is worth spending a day or evening there and a visit to the Naval Museum is a must it's in a fabulous Castle dating back to 1300's at least.
Fresh air and tranquillity. The rooms are spacious, clean and furnished to cater to every need. It’s truly a privilege to start your day with the forest view and the smell of nature when you step out onto your balcony in the morning. Thank you very much to Miss Özlem and Eric Bey for welcoming us like kings.
We stayed here for two nights at the start of our Turkish holiday. The accommodation is basic, but very spacious, quiet and comfortable and has excellent views across the countryside. It’s located in a tiny village a few kms out of Eceabat. It is probably better to have a car, but we managed to get around by taxi. Eric the owner was an excellent host, happy to share his wealth of all things to do with the war history and the area. Following Eric’s advice we arranged an excellent battlefield sites tour with a company called Crowded House Tours. This company also provided a transfer from Istanbul to the Gallipoli Houses at a very competitive rate.
It's a very relaxing place surrounded by natural beauty. We had a wonderful time listening to the birdsong and animal sounds. Many thanks to the hostess, Özlem Hanım, for her warm hospitality. Everything you need was there. It was a lovely touch to have information about all the living creatures displayed in a written form at the entrance, out of respect for the natural environment. A big thank you also to Bingo and Leyla, who waited for us at the door every morning... Hopefully, we'll see each other again next year...
Really enjoyed my stay, and happy to recommend this place. Spent almost 3 weeks here in the Anafartalar cottage. Can't speak highly enough of this great place and warm hospitality of Eric and Oslem. Great value and beats the pants off other places. The self-contained cottage was excellent, clean and well-appointed and roomy. Will be back!
I have stayed at Gallipoli Houses several times. It is like a home to me. It is located at the heart of Gallipoli, in a small quiet village. The owners Özlem and Eric are very knowledgable of the area. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is an excellent beach nearby. There are no shops nearby. It is wise to bring some food. If you plan to visit Gallipoli, do not miss the opportunity to stay here.
We'd heard good things about The Gallipoli Houses and my brother and I were fortunate to be able to book a room at short notice. Eric and his wife are excellent hosts and the location in the Gallipoli countryside is superb. After the hustle and bustle of Istanbul, The Gallipoli Houses was a wonderful place to be and the view from our patio, across the garden to the wooded hillside beyond was idyllic. We'll be back.
Gallipoli and the ANZAC story hold a special place in New Zealand history and had been a bucket list destination. Gallipoli Houses was the perfect place to rest after paying our respects at Gallipoli. Our room looked up to Chanukah Bair memorial was clean and comfortable. Eric’s approach makes you feel like a long-time friend from the initial email requesting a bed, the loan of books and maps, morning and evening brief/debrief to ensure you’ve achieved the purpose of your visit; helpful suggestions for onward travels in Turkey and further abroad.
An excellent place to stay as long as you realise you are out in the sticks! We wanted to explore the Gallipoli battle sites so it was far nearer/better than Gallipoli town. Eric was a very pleasant host and his English was good. Eric kindly loaned us maps and books. There was no problem parking the hire car. The internet signal was good - so we could listen to Radio Caroline's internet broadcasts! We had a lovely room with a private balcony and good kitchen facilities. The latter are needed as Eric is not doing breakfasts or dinners anymore and the nearest restaurants are a drive away. The air con worked well. The room was nice and quiet. The private balcony was a fine place to sit with a lovely view. Very good value too.
Super nice apartment. Well equipped with everything you need to cook. If you would like a few days of quiet countryside life, this would be a perfect spot. Our room is spacious with comfortable bed and powerful shower. Nice terrace to dine out as well. WiFi works fine most of the time. Even though we didn't have our own vehicle, Eric arranged all the pick-up and drop-off from the ferry for us. He also planned and organized brilliant private taxi tours to the gallipoli battlefields with very reasonable prices. Much cheaper than joining a big tour and much better experiences as well. We can pay the bills by credit card as well.
a belated note to thank you very much for looking after me so well when I stayed with you in early July. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about visiting Gallipoli, but the Gallipoli Houses were a particular highlight. Your location is out-standing, by far the most convenient to the battlefields, and your hospitality was first class: the room was great and the warmth of your welcome second to none. I especially enjoyed our chat long into the evening. I'm afraid to say that your status as a secret hideaway is under real threat -I have been telling everybody how wonderful you were!! Please pass by thanks to Ozlem and everybody at the Gallipoli Houses.
5 stars is not enough. Eric and Ozlem are amazing hosts. Friendly and super helpful but you wouldn’t even know they are there if that is what you prefer. The pictures of the 3 bedroom accommodation do not do it justice; it is very spacious with amazing views from the windows and deck. The gardens are just gorgeous. A true highlight of our holiday to Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria.
Stayed for two days at The Gallipoli Houses with my 14 year old son and we loved every moment of it! The room was very tastefully decorated and had all the amenities needed for a perfect stay. The small refrigerator as well as the plates, silverware, glasses, coffee mugs etc... for three people were there to prepare cold meals and the barbecue in the patio was an added touch to cook steaks which we did. No meals are served so it is do-it-yourself all the way. The shower was exquisite with perfect water pressure. The bed and the sofa bed were very comfortable and the place was thoroughly cleaned before we arrived. Plenty of clean towels were provided too. The apartments are located far from any stores or restaurants and are about a fifteen minute ride from Eceabat, so you need a car to get around or can use a taxi cab. Beautiful sunflower fields along the way, perfect for photos!! Eric and Özlem, the owners of the premises, are very pleasant and helpful. Great place for a quiet holiday and for star gazing as there is very, very little light pollution in the village go Kocadere. Highly recommended!
Staying here was one of the highlights of our three weeks in Turkey! After the frantic pace of Istanbul we found ourselves enjoying just a few roosters, pigeons, sheep, goats (and an out of tune dog calling people to prayer!) for company.... plus of course Ozlem and Erik who were wonderful hosts. The view from our first floor apartment balcony was so beautiful and peaceful. Both nights we were there we just ate simple food from the store at Eccebat and watched the sun go down enjoying the local rose. We had a car and it is about 15 mins to Eceabat, though it was tempting to stay here forever! We can't recommend Gallipoli Houses highly enough, and the value for money is outstanding.
The landscape, being in harmony with the surrounding nature, and the cleanliness of the premises and the care of staff are what we really liked. They allow dogs, which was a must for us. The room was quite big, beds were comfortable and air-conditioning was perfectly and silently working. We loved our 3 days there.
Thank you for your warm hospitality during my visit to Canakkale. After our early morning stint, Tim and I very much enjoyed spending some time with you … Should I have the opportunity to visit Canakkale in future I would be delighted to visit the Gallipoli Houses again. ...
We are also very appreciative of your warm hospitality to members of the team managing the commemorations. I look forward to visiting the Gallipoli Houses again, in a less rushed context, I hope.
A very special thank you to you and Ozlem for opening up your wonderful place for us. We really appreciate it. I truly wish I could have stayed another few days, but I'm determined to become a 'regular' from this point on ... Thanks again.
